Sylvia Jane Ivey, age 81, of Trafford, AL, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022. Sylvia was a loving wife, mother and nana who loved writing poetry. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when her children needed her. Sylvia had a host of friends in her community, and loved her church family and Jesus with her whole heart. She was kind and very soft spoken, always willing to help to the best of her ability. She loved Jesus and always took the time to talk about Him and make sure everyone knew about Him. She loved her grandchildren and spent as much time as she could with them. She will be greatly missed. Sylvia was preceded in death by her mother, Audie Elizabeth Chapman; and her daughter, Tanya Elizabeth Burns. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, William "Bill" Martin Ivey; daughters, Tara Kennedy (Jason) and Teresa Lyons; grandchildren, Jamie Kennedy, Jonathon Kennedy, Lacey Lyons and William Lyons (Samantha); great-grandchildren Tyler, Maddie, Ma'Leyah, Jeremy and Emma; brother, Dave Chapman (Lindy); sister, Pauline Frambach; as well as a host of many wonderful nephews and nieces. A visitation for Sylvia will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Thursday, December 29, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Because floral arrangements are not permitted on the graves in the Alabama National Cemetery where Mrs. Ivey will be laid to rest, in lieu of flowers the family asks that guests please make donations to the dog rescue Tails from Alabama in memory of Sylvia.
