Obituary

Ted Coffey, age 66, of Hanceville, Alabama, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2019. To be as simple of a man as he was, you would never have known that he had such a diverse life. Everyone who ever met Ted went away with the feeling "Now there was a good man!" He never really had a lot of riches, except he was honest, hardworking, believed in God and family, and always did his best to honor God and protect his family. He was Past Master of East Lake Masonic Lodge 480. He was retired after almost 20 years with the city of Birmingham, Alabama. Even though he had his retirement, he wasn't content unless he was doing something, so he and our son joined the Boy Scouts of America, where Ted was, of course, the Scout Leader of their den all through our son's years of scouting. During this, he had graduated with an Associate Degree from Wallace State Community College, but he wanted a Bachelors, so he transferred his grades and graduated top of his class, getting his BA in Human Resources. Before he could do anything with his degree, he had a stroke, broke his hip, and they found him to have a brain tumor that was inoperable. He should be walking streets of gold, fully whole now! I sure am going to miss my Ted. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Singleton Coffey Sr.; mother, Eirvy Reese Rylant Coffey; mother-in-law, Clara M. Henley; sister-in-law, Kathy E. Coffey; and brother-in-law, Bill Turner. He is survived by his wife, Earlene Henley Coffey, of Hanceville; daughters, Kristen Guy and Jessica C. Warren (Jerry), both of Cullman; sons, Barry D. Stone (Carla), of Jacksonville, and T. David Coffey Jr., of Warrior; brothers, Frank Singleton Coffey Jr., of Warrior, and William Robert "Bob" Coffey (Josephine), of Pennsylvania; sister, Margaret Turner, of Adamsville; and four grandchildren, Noah, Davin and Benson Warren, and Kyleigh Guy. A visitation for Ted will be held at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Monday, December 9, from 11:00am - 12:00pm, with funeral service beginning at 12:00pm.
