Verla Gardner Russell, 88, passed peacefully at home on July 21, 2023. She was born on August 31, 1934 to parents Clyde and Tollie Gardner as the youngest of six children. She was married to Bertis Russell on November 30, 1951, and together they had four children, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. For over 50 years they owned and operated Warrior Ready Mix.

She is preceded in death by her husband as well as her parents and siblings. She is survived by children Belinda (Ronnie) Campbell, Michael Russell, Debbie (Billy) Hudson, and Carol (Michael) Sparks. Grandchildren Melanie Boatright, Leah Hudson, Jacob Sparks, and great-grandchild Natalie Boatright.

Visitation will take place at Messmer-Goodwin Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at 11:00 am with a funeral service at noon. Burial will follow at Sulphur Springs Cemetery.
