Wilmer Nelson Stone was born on December 19, 1931. He blessed with more than 90 wonderful years. He passed from this life to his eternal home on Wednesday, November 16, 2022. He was reunited in Heaven with his parents Cephas Zeno (Zeke) and Emma Ella Lee (Smith) Stone, brothers Ersie, Osmer and Albert Stone, sisters Evelene Barnett Stewart, Syble Hyde, Nellie Childers and Betty Haynes, first wife Bonnie Fay and infant daughter Deborah Fay, as well as several other close family members. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Bobbie) Stone, children-Andrea(Roger) Lay, Gina (Denny) Marsh, Stephen (Christy) Stone, grandchildren- Cody (Hannah) Marsh, Ashlyn (Dusty) Monk, Stone (Kari) Marsh, Jeremy Lay, Leanna Lay, Zachary Stone, Natalie (Evan) Turner, Caitlyn (Alex) Hitt, great grandchildren Shiloh and Elsie Marsh and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Nelson was a kind and gentle person who loved his family dearly and was happiest when spending time with them. He was a wise man of few words but when he did speak people listened because they knew what he was about to say was either extremely important or extremely funny. Those who knew him well had the privilege of being on the receiving end of a dry humor that was quite unexpected coming from such a quiet man.

The only thing Nelson loved more than his family was his Lord. He didn't show a lot of outward emotion or even speak much about it but his relationship with God was precious and special. He led by example and the life he lived was a testimony to how important his faith was to him.

Nelson served in the United States Army as a military police during the Korean War. He joked that they signed the peace treaty when they heard he was coming.

After returning home he became a glass installer and glazer and spent most of his career working for Pittsburgh Glass and Nelson Brantley Glass. For the Stone children, their daddy was, indeed, a glassmaker.

Working with glass was only one of Nelson's many talents. Over his lifetime he raised bees, pigs, chickens, goats, rabbits and other various farm animals. He once had a chicken that would sit on his knee. He was a talented woodworker and used his hands to build various pieces of furniture, beautiful musical instruments and many birdhouses throughout the years. He had them ability to visualize and build almost anything. Once when his wife and daughters went shopping he surprised them by closing in the entire front porch to make their living room bigger. Through the years he added several more rooms and decks to their home turning a four room house into a home large enough to host thirty or more family members and friends for nearly every holiday or special occasion. He filled all of those rooms with hundreds of clocks that he collected and enjoyed working on.

Nelson was easy to love and he will certainly be missed by all who knew him. His passing will leave a void in our hearts that can never be filled on this earth but we take comfort knowing this is a temporary separation. We will continue his legacy by living our lives in a way that honors him until the day we meet again.
